What a day! Been out 2 times in 3 weeks and didn't want to go
home! More fish than you catch and what fun! Jeff's
knowledge of these fishin' waters is phenomenal. There is no

Jeff, this jon who works as a creel census agent for the DEC. I talked to you
at Wrights landing and took some measurements on the steelhead you caught on one
of your charter trips. You were wondering if the fish you caught were
non-stocked rainbows because they didn't have any fin-clips. To answer your
question, I'm not sure because not all stocked fish, rainbows or others, are
clipped. The only rainbows that are mostly clipped are the Skamania, summer run,
rainbows that come from the
Salmon River
hatchery and the reason they are mostly clipped are to ensure a pure strain.
But other rainbows, the domestic rainbows and the
Washington
strain steehead, are not always clipped. So, it is entirely possible that it
was a
Washington
strain that was stocked and did not have clips. It is also possible that it was
a naturally reproduced fish as well. Thanks for participating in our census and
